This week’s online module as well as class activities, lesson, and discussions, included great talk about growth mindset as well, but allowed me to experience growth mindset. During the first Settler activity we did in class, I was initially anxious as my “mental” math skills have never been relatively strong. However, it was stressed that it was more the process of the activity than the final answer that mattered. I knew that my effort would be celebrated rather than how fast or how effectively I came to the answer. "Growth Mindset" http://natecooper.co/2016/08/territorial-versus-action-mindset/10-growth-mindset-statements/ This week we did an online module that focused on math myths, misconceptions, stereotypes, and how math contributes to brain growth. A lot of what I viewed in the videos aligned with my feelings surrounding math or misunderstandings surrounding math that I witnessed during my educational experiences leading up to teacher’s college. Some examples include, math being only for boys, math being only for “math people”, math only necessary for careers focused on math, or math not helping you in life after school. This line of thinking can be described as a fixed mindset . This can mean shying away from the challenge or believing that you are either good or bad at math.
